Overview
When Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, He accomplished what God had required of Him – He had completed His mission. It was now time for Jesus to pass the baton to His apostles to carry on the work of the Father. However, His followers were not meant to do this work alone in their own ability. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit, the Advocate/Helper, will be sent to them to help them (John 16:7). It was to their advantage that Jesus ascended to Heaven. Not only would the apostles have the power of the Holy Spirit, but they would have Jesus as their Intercessor. Just like the apostles, we too are sent to carry the message of the Gospel; the Holy Spirit that was available to them is also available to us. Therefore we can rest assured that we have all that we need to carry out our mission and be victorious.
